Anywhere four or more Canadians meet with a violin, it seems inevitable that they be compared to The Arcade Fire. Inevitable, but in the case of The New Pornographers, accurate.

In 'Myriad Harbour' we’re greeted by a variety of electric and acoustic guitars, strings, tambourines, harmonicas and woodblocks, all huddling together to make a big mesh of positive noise. The communal singing habit of Canada’s finest has been inherited too, culminating in something that sounds like the best evangelical church service ever.

Unlike anything The Arcade Fire have written though, this is (according to the band) “a New York song”. It certainly works, as for these few fleeting minutes, being told to “look up for once and see how just the sun sets in the sky”, we’re convinced that the Big Apple could actually be a spiritually-fulfilling place to be, rather than the overly busy taxi-hive we know it is.

Yep, this is a track as uplifting as any we’ve heard this year. And there are worse things than being compared to The Arcade FireAvril Lavigne is from Canada too, y’know.
