'Lucio Starts Fires', Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong's debut single, was released earlier in the month. It seems to have been everywhere surrounding the release, so you probably know who these guys are, yes? We had a chat with Joe Lean about the band's debut album, their upcoming touring, and, er, prison.
Hello Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong! We hear you're currently working on your debut album, how's it going?
It’s going very well thanks, apart from a slight head cold.
Have you decided on a final track listing yet? It must be difficult, choosing which songs to keep and which to leave off?
We’re going to record more tracks, but you never know the listing til it’s finished.
Your first single from the album, 'Lucio Starts Fires', was released a few weeks ago - do you know what you want to release for your second?
We’re still undecided. But, the next single will hopefully show another facet of the band’s sound.
Which are you looking forward to more: supporting Babyshambles or Kaiser Chiefs?
Well, playing with Bagelshambles will be on a tour, so it’ll be more fun and can get into the groove of it.
Which of the two bands do you think would win if they both went on Countdown?
Ricky Wilson used to be a teacher, but Pete’s very well read apparently. Either way I’d win, I’ll be round the back of the board having sex with dirty Carol.
Are you at all nervous about playing such big venues?
Yes, we’re shitting ourselves, but we feel so lucky to be in this position and will hopefully rise to the challenge. We feel more comfortable on a big stage anyway. Because my head’s so big.
Will you have a headline tour of your own after your support slots?
