Interview: we are THE PHYSICS

we are THE PHYSICS
We have a chat with Glasgow's infamous we are THE PHYSICS, and they tell us all about their new album (something to watch out for next year), playing Russia (they've just got back), and their biggest fans (their Mums)...
Hello We Are The Physics! How are you?
Fine, like a tooth comb! How are you?
Good thanks! How's the album coming along? Have you found a label to put it out yet?
The album's quite good, or so we think anyway. We haven't found anyone to put it out yet, unfortunately. One day we'll be able to fool a label into thinking we're actually a real band and our mothers will finally be able to buy our album in HMV. Have at you, Britain.
Have you ever been tempted to do the self-release thing?
Definitely, we know we've got a pretty good album here and we know there are loads of people who want to buy it, so it'd make sense for us to release it ourselves, but we wouldn't be able to afford to promote it at all after that. We'd just have an album sitting there that we couldn't tour or advertise, which would be a real shame considering the five minutes of work we put into it! Ideally, we'd put it on the internet for free so anyone could download it but, again, we'd love to tour it so those people who DO like it could see us live, but we can't afford it.
Does the album sound much like you thought it would when you started?
Not really, we thought it'd be good. Ho ho! It sounds a lot different to how we thought it'd sound, there's a lot more blips and bleeps and surf guitars and bad singing than we'd initially intended, but we think it sounds better for it.
Which is your favourite track on it?
Probably one of the newer ones like 'Napoleon Loves Josephine' or 'Pylons + Other Modern Art' just because we haven't been playing them live for the past year and our ears don't want to spew them back out yet.
Will any of your current fans be surprised by anything you've put on, or left off?
I'm not sure, a couple of die-hard old-skool Physics fans (again, our mothers) may be surprised that some of the earlier songs have been kicked directly in the musical scrotum and aren't on there, but we've been decent enough to plagiarise ourselves and put a similar sounding new song on it, just for them.
Do you find it difficult transferring your live sound to the studio?
Yes, we can't do it. When we play live, we just turn everything up really loud and hit everything as hard as we can, whereas in the studio that comes across as this word: blhuofhassdff... so, recording and playing live are two completely different entities for us.
What else, other than working on the album, have you been up to recently?
We've just been trying to gig loads and write new songs in case we never ever get this album out. We've been gigging in Europe and we're just back from Russia, who claimed we had actually blown their brains out. I really hope we didn't because that'd be alarming, but apparently, there's not much music like us over there.
Are there any hot new Glaswegian bands we should be checking out?
We've been dead busy and haven't been able to get out to see many new bands in Glasgow but there's stuff like We Were Promised Jetpacks and Ex Wives who are fantastico! Invisibles were great, but they just split up because they're too lazy, apparently.
