Love Ends Disaster! have not long released their newest double-A-side single, 'Suzanne' / 'Dinosaur', so we thought it a good time to have a chat with bassist Matt Dix.
Hello Matt! How are you today?
I'm great thanks! I've just finished making three camels and a donkey outfit for the local primary school Christmas play where I work. That's right... we've all got real jobs! Well, for now at least.
You've not long released your brand new single 'Suzanne/Dinosaur' - why a double-A-side? They seem to be quite popular at the moment.
I think they have become popular for a few reasons. One of which is that no matter how you say it, having a B-Side is the equivalent of offering people some left over sick from the night before rather than the actual party hat worn on the night! It also puts people off downloading it when a single is released. Aside from that cynical marketing point, we feel personaly that both songs deserve an equal place on the single. They are both pretty different and so far people seem to have differing opinions on their favourite.
Will both tracks be featuring on your debut album?
Well, it's a double A-Side so I'd certainly expect to see both on the album. If you see any bands not put their A-Sides on an album then we'll know they went for the marketing option and didn't want to call it a B-Side!
How have you found recording the album so far?
Jez Burns and James Townend are fantastic producers. They really understand our angle on things and work well with finding the right sounds and experimenting with new ones. It's been a really slow process so far due to lack of funding but from our own pockets we are finally getting there. We're hoping to get a huge chunk of it done this Christmas. There wont be any turkey in the studio though, the lead singers vegetarian.
Is it sounding like you had previously thought it would?
Sort of. We've always wanted to mix up all our ideas and make each song as individual as possible. We wanted to write a pop song so we wrote 'Suzanne'. Then we wanted to write a long, eerie piano number with a heavy, noisy, feedback-soaked middle section so that's going on there as well. I'm really looking forward to recording 'KillerBOMBS' as well. It's our heaviest song yet, quite twisted and brutal but as always with us, slightly tounge-in-cheek. It certainly wont be a ten track pop song album. The freedom we have not being tied to a label means it will have hidden gems and cheeky bits all flowing between songs making something far more layered and interesting. I think the albums going to blow people away, or piss them off. Either way and we'll be happy.
As well as working on the album, you've also been touring a lot
recently - how was it? Did you pick up many new fans on your travels?
Yeah all of the Scouting for Girls fans now have some musical taste! We love gigging and playing live and having a new drummer has filled us all with such energy, so there are new songs coming and going from our set all the time at the moment. It's really exciting!
Do you have anything exciting planned for next year?
Yes, we're going to release our album and it's going to be very, very good.
