Release Date: 18/02/08
Label: Columbia
Rating: 5/10
Ronson has managed to get his meddling mitts on Radiohead’s ‘Just’, which essentially has angered a vast quantity of Radiohead fans worldwide. Unsurprisingly, ‘Just’ consists of Ronsons predictable formula for a catchy pop hit, which entails a semi-famous vocalist played over a fast paced jazz band, with some blaring brass sections. In total fairness Ronson knows how to produce a decent pop record which will be adored, and drained by our nation’s radio stations.
Nonetheless, on this particular single Ronson has collaborated with Phantom Planet, better known for singing the theme tune for American teen drama ‘The O.C’. The singer; Alex Greenwald echoes Thom Yorke’s slurring vocals at times, but generally Greenwalds voice adds a sultry and stylish feel to a song which formally expressed despair and angst in Radiohead’s day. The single also features electrifying remixes courtesy of the Go! Team and Wu Tang Clan’s RZA, just to add a little more diversity, and a modern twist to the single. It’s a funky, captivating, pre-summer hit that is sure to have us all singing along, whether we want to or not.
