Thank God for Los Campesinos! Seriously, surely these can safely be hailed as the saviours of alternative music. Their lyrics are superbly elusive and accessible simultaneously whilst their menagerie of musical instruments keeps one ear alert at all times. Thrashing and euphoric 'Death to Los Campesinos!' is an expertly put together song which seems effortless. Duel male / female vocals harmonise as the (much underrated) glockenspiel and spiky guitars whirl around drums and synth and who knows what. Voices clamour and the frenzy sums up countless nights out (yet with none of the hangover). Tinkley bells and feedback subtlety keep the track on line as actual musical talent gives a little more than is expected in your average indie band. With quite a few members and quite a few instruments vying for attention it might be assumed some would be surplus. But that assumption would be wrong- if any one element was missing this band would not be as good as they are. It's pop-music at its best; catchy, addictive with a twist of substance and texture.
Worryingly hype might overcome this band; jading them against what is actually talent and good music simply because NME can't get enough of them (just look what they did to The Enemy. Although unlike Los Camp! they were rubbish to begin with). Sure to be played a million times over on indie-dance-floors it seems already that 2008 belongs to them, and rightly so.
