Along with its gospel influenced chorus merciless beats, ‘I Shall Overcome’ is an indie anthem in the waiting. Accompanied with a rousing chorus, vivacious backing vocals and effective ‘stop start’ guitars. Written by front man Richard Archer, it is certainly more personal and intimate than previous recordings, showcasing the band in a different light whilst remaining unmistakably true to the sound of Hard Fi.
Being the third single taken from their album ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’, it differs from previous single releases with Archer delivering an intended bitter and defiant statement through his lyrics: "But doubt and fear come calling, and crowd my head with words of hate". The downfall is that the track fizzles out towards the end through sounding so morose, losing the listener's attention.
