It's definitely nothing new. There's no major innovation in new sounds, but for some reason, we don't care. In this age of experimentalism and noises from outer space, it's comforting to see a band that is making music that is exciting, rich with feeling but not caught up with finding 'the new sound'.
It's all about taking the best bits from a few definitive artists of alternative music. The Beach Boys, Pixies and Pavement have all been compared to this band, and it's not hard to see why. Swirling keys, heartfelt vocals and a certain feeling of sentimentality (of bands gone by) all fuse to create a well crafted alternative/indie album.
Yet, without being too hung up on the past, they've injected some contemporary sounds as well. 'Blunt' lives up to it's name, blasting out early White Stripes' distortion and eerie story telling. Another modern touch is 'Time Of Songs' that could easily be a Modest Mouse song.
Overall, a very good follow-up album from Tapes 'N Tapes. Although what it reminds us off seems to be better than the actual music.
