Impatience and anticipation reverberated around the crowded students union. Audio Go and Clock has already provided excellent support, and the audience was raring to go. Suddenly, the lights went up and the music started; Scouting For Girls were greeted by mass hysteria.
Opener, 'I Need A Holiday' was well received, and singer Roy Stride almost had to raise his voice to be heard over the highly enthusiastic crowd. The majority of the set followed suit, with each effort being met with more energy than the last. Songs were tied together beautifully by flirtatious banter and kooky audio clips.
Despite not being 100% watertight musically, Scouting For Girls put on an excellent show. Faults seemed to pass unnoticed in front of the dedicated fans, and every knowing smile between band members was met by adoration from the audience. They had them wrapped around their little fingers, knowing exactly what strings to pull and when. At one point, frontman Stride was almost mauled to death by the front row. Perhaps the thing that stood out most about this London three-piece was the way they interacted with the crowd on such a personal level.
Set highlights included the unexpected 'A Level Pain', 'You Were Fitter In Your Myspace Picture', and the quirky 'Michaela Strachan'. Needless to say, ' She's So Lovely' was a tremendous success, with it's repetitive but catch nature. 'The Mountains of Nevaho' saw audience participation at its highest with sensationally tuneless chants of "love, love, love, love, love.".
Scouting For Girls looked to be having the time of their lives on that stage, and that really transpired. Hull loved every second of the set, and was buzzing with energy from start to finish. The most fun we've had at a gig in ages.
