Tom O'Hare (bass and vocals) tells us about Post War Years' new single, having a toilet and Keifer Sutherland's key to success...

Congratulations with 'The Black Morning', it seems to have been well received... does this mean you are officially signed now?
Ta very much. We were all pretty pleased with how the single's gone down. We released the first single on a little independent called Chess Club and we didn't even sign anything official with them, so I don't know if that counts. In all honesty none of us can write anyway.

How long have you been together, we haven't heard of that many bands who hail from Leamington Spa... do you all come from there? How do you know each other?
We all grew up around there and all went to different secondary schools in the area. The story of how we got together is less interesting than trying to work out how many cats it would take to attack and overwhelm a fully grown man. So lets all do that instead (my guess is 23).

Apparently you all live together, if so is it difficult to live and play together all the time?
I think when you've spent almost every weekend of your life with three other men travelling in the back of smoky postal vans and sweating in air-tight rooms. It effects you in a profound and rather special way. At least our house has a toilet.

So far, what has been your strangest gig?
We once did a gig for Rockfeedback in Islington and after we played Keifer Sutherland turned up. He told us that the key to success was to 'never lie down' and to 'kill 'em dead.' That was quite surreal.

Do you have a favourite part of the country you enjoy playing to?
We've always said we really enjoy playing in Leeds. The scene up there is great - O Fracas should be listened to more - If they moved it further south, we'd consider moving there.

Who are your main influences?
I think we've all got a lot of different influences - Clor, Bjork, Radiohead, Television, Hot Chip, Prince, Bowie, Talking Heads... I think we got our current obsession with two bass guitars from Tom Vek. I think it helps explain a lot about us as people if you think of it in terms of the Oasis/Blur divide we all grew up in: Simon and Henry used to be big Oasis fans but have now discarded them because they're bored. Fred was a firm Blur man and has probably now been proved right (an annoying habit of his) and Tom liked both but has never bought any of their records.

Is there a particular band you would love to tour with?
We would, hands on heart, love to support Tom Vek when he releases his new album. But we've been waiting for that album for a long, long time.

What are you listening to at the moment?
Mysterons - Moving Coils
Mystery Jets - Two Doors Down
James Yuill - No Surprises

Where do you hope to see yourselves in the future?
If the oppurtunity arises to sign up for space exploration, I'm definately up for it. You shouldn't turn things like that down.

Summer is near, playing/going to any festivals?
We're playing a couple of nice small scale ones. Found out recently we've got Truck (19-20th July) which is very exciting (for us). And we're playing Secret Garden Party (24th-27th July) which by all accounts is a lot of fun. And we're playing Lounge on the Farm (11-13th July) - which is clearly Kent's largest festival.
