Whilst ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ was more akin to The Rascals, this latest offering from Alex Turner and Miles Kane’s side project, is not at all like either The Arctic Monkeys or The Rascals. Strumming acoustic guitars with orchestral arrangements is definitely not a normal combination. However, strangely, it works. ‘Standing Next To Me’ is by no means a classic, but the name Alex Turner will always give it a good reputation.

The nature of The Last Shadow Puppets will always mean that the choruses are catchy and easy to sing along to. However, compared to previous single ‘The Age Of The Understatement’, this new release is only moderately exciting. This does not have the same feeling of mystery that ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ had. ‘Standing Next To Me’ is a much more normal song and the lyrics are easier to relate to. However, it lacks a drive in a certain direction. These two young men have too many ideas for this song. They are just having some fun though. It is epic, tight and memorable. The Last Shadow Puppets are an interesting project.
