Fresh from bloggers clawing at their every limb and the subsequent A&R showdown that ensued, it's easy to forget that amongst the deafening worldwide hype Tapes 'n' Tapes are actually really good. Like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah before them, their immaculate Americana-quirk-pop was somehow forgotten under mountains of praise and adulation. 'Cowbell', taken from their DIY debut album 'The Loon', should easily redress the balance.
One of the standout tracks from their record, it's Tapes at their very best: there's spaghetti western shuffles, Frank Black-esque yelps and a gloriously pulsing gypsy-noise rockout. We can't hear much cowbell though, which is surely a case for Trading Standards.
