Life isn’t all grit and soggy chips. And you’d better remember this when Hadouken! roll into your village. Their dirty alchemy, blending grime and metal, will slap a day-glo smile on your face whether you like it or not. Plus point: beneath all the fun and fashionable disco hi-hattery, Hadouken! sound a bit like a rave. Not quite white gloves and whistles yet, and a bit late at the bus stop for the New Rave Bandwagon, but they appear promising. They make a big, fun electro-raucous racket. And they’re named after a kooky piece of early-to-mid nineties youth culture. Woo!

Punctuated by comedy games-console samples, their repertoire is short, snappy and full of intent. Lyricist James’ delivery smacks of Dizzee Rascal getting shunted by any noteworthy, loudmouth urban troubadour circa last week. It might be worth listening to what he has to say; he’s likely to be in the Cool List 2007. They've a gaggle of MySpace followers sweating it out in a huddle, not paying too much attention to the content of scenester-bashing ‘That Boy, That Girl’. Meanwhile keyboarder Alice, a placid new recruit in the growing army of square wave specialists, acts as a sadly static piece of eye-candy. Still, Hadouken! sound good, look good, and barring any disasters, should be creating their sonic booms (oof) for a while yet.
