Prince of Perdizes: Babe, Terror

"I live in Perdizes, a quarter with great contemporary hippie and (old) Italian influence in the city of São Paulo. One of the major Brazilian soccer teams, Palmeiras, which was established by the Italian community in São Paulo, is settled there, four blocks down from my home" - Babe,Terror March 2009
Around this time last year somewhere in between the High Places and Pocahaunted ambient and lo-fi garage rock we started listening to Babe, Terror. This one man from Brazil managed to capture the attention of the New Yorker and The Guardian, Stereogum and a girl with her first blog in one puff of ambient vocals and modulated table tapping. Most of the sounds are human made, be it slapping, clacking or just humming a scale that's hidden under effects. While he inspired his fair share of fuzzy descriptions he also brought the Dada inspired revolution music back into circulation with Os Mutantes, Gal Costa and Tom Ze getting a whole lot more name-checking.
After 300 odd days and as whole load of Tropic influenced sound thieves release new material this year, it's worth marvelling what he does with that voicebox all over again.
