Dragon Turtle

Dragon Turtle are Brian Lightbody and Tom Asselin. They are sold as a nature meets NYC behemoth, bringing together the spirit of the woods with the sounds of the city. They're some kind of creative centre that tells us what it is to be an artist in the scary world of labels that don't pitch in with backing vocals. "Dragon Turtle embraces community, finding a place for each character amongst all La Société artists and friends contributing to recordings and performances" they say.

Not that they need all that bollocks. The one thing they neglect to mention are the tunes, that are perfect enough without the dressing that the collaborative process gives it.

If we're getting all fancy, why not mention the wood whistling melodies? ['Causality] or the gorgeously subtle strokes that make up the vocals? [Island of Broken Glass]. They sound like they've been recorded under trickling water, or stuck in lift, depending on whether you're feeling more Tom or Brian.

Their new record is out now on a limited run of vinyl. Containing nine tracks it was released last week on La Société Expéditionnaire. Made in a mountain basement [we think we were pretty close with the lift tip] roller rinks make for "reverb!" and they burned books [hey nature! meet city words!] for the cover art.

We suggest you listen to some of their Ambient-Winter-Calypso-Space-Folk and experience it yourself. Being an 'artiste' is entirely optional.
