Egyptian Hip Hop

This week we're bringing you our 10 for 2010; musicians set for tours and records in 2010 at one end and 2009's give-a-listen albums at the other.

Egyptian Hip Hop were a band that crept up in 2009, getting people talking with their spectacularly rubbish name or the fact they come from Manchester and some bands have happened there before. Never mind, the people like the music. And why wouldn't they? Egyptian Hip Hop tie together the harsher synthesiser bands of the past few years - your Klaxons, Late of The Pier and Friendly Fires - with the soft distortion of new 'favourites' like Girls. They're the sound of optimistic youth filtered through old and slightly disgruntled guitar pedals. Jonny Marr gave them some of these, and we all know he is down with the kids. Until now they've been living on loosely stitched demos - vocals get across those 17 years - but it gives their tracks a vital naivety. Their's are tricks that have been played before and it takes chopped up versions of 00's icons [Rad Pitt], to show how they're planning on changing the old order in 2010.
