Golau Glau

Golau Glau don't talk about who they are, what they do and who they want to sound like. Oh dear.

What we do know is that they are two people from Wales living in Yorkshire, who make boom-bip electro that sounds like it came out of the prettiest machine ever invented. We didn't want to talk about pedals and effects so Neu Magazine challenged the band to answer the dilemmas of the internet public on beacon for the lost and hopeless, Yahoo Answers. If Deidre ever pops her clogs The Sun could do worse than ask these two.

What Shall I Get My Boyfriend For Xmas?
Not a goat or anything from one of those websites that sells novelty crap for people who don't know their friends/family/partner very well. We want a Korg Kaossilator and it looks like fun even for non-musicians, maybe one of those or a nice cardigan. If he gets tired of it, we'll nick it (goes for both). If you're a bit skint, give him our free Christmas single: ‘Foolstide’ is Here!

I've ignored your advice and got him a pocket watch. Sorry. What is a good quote to put on a pocket watch?
Well, that's quite dapper. At least he'll look like a dandy and not be late to meet you when his mobile gets stolen. Put "You are not alone". Resist the temptation to put in a sound chip playing Michael Jackson. Do put in a jack-in-the-box mechanism if you know how.

I ordered the watch off ebay but it didn't arrive. I've sent 3 emails to the same place but they did not recieve them where could they be?
In the back of the washing machine with lost socks, a five pound note, your mother's short term memory and some bits of tissue.

Golau Glau are from Wales and Yorkshire. Their name means 'light rain'. Which you get a lot of in both places.
"Golau" is easily translated. "Glau" is messier and less clear. "Glaw" is rain, usually, though we take it as part of our name's meaning too because in some dialects it is "glau". "Glau" can mean "quickly" or "rapid" and some say "audible". Whizz all that up together with the sounds of the words. It gives you a sense of what we're about and where we're from.

What would you do in Wales if you only had four days?
See attached picture advertising the holiday of a lifetime, sadly the date has now passed.

Other than that: get a helicopter so we could cover as much ground as possible, try to wangle a shopping spree at Spillers, go out to the Gower Peninsula and sigh at the loveliness, find all the plans for Portmeirion so we can build our own folly village one day (with turrets and pink buildings), hide in Bryn Celli Ddu, climb Snowdon, write a tune about Llyn y Fan Fach, hang out with our friends and go painting in Pembrokeshire. If there's time and fuel still in the helicopter, we'd pop down Cardigan and see if Howies can fit us out with nice warm clothes and print up some t-shirts because we hear they've got their own enviromentally-friendly t-shirt printing shed and we get geekily excited about that sort of thing.

What's the best time of the year to photograph in Wales?
It's always good, but we like the light best in winter. Cold, crisp days in the hills. June out at Gower or by the river in Llangollen is amazing, though.

What is your opinion of Wales and the welsh people?
See our sound art piece, 'Dead Air', which we made as a YourSpace segment for BBC Radio Wales

Mainly, we are in love.

What is the average cost of living in Yorkshire, England?
Tuppence ha'penny and having to try curd tarts at least once.

Any good car boot sales in Yorkshire?
We hear there are but they start at six in the morning and sell lots of stolen and broken stuff. Charity shops are plentiful and a bit less scary. Though some seem to have special "goth" sections these days with expensive velvet and PVC bits. It never goes away. We bought a lot at boot sales in this area when we were kids, but that was pre-Ebay.

They describe their music as Silverpop but some people have noted their sound is a little bit dub. They remix a lot too. So how can I make music using a computer?
Pasta collage, paper cup full of lentils, the 3D printer and Chockablock. Feed through the software and hardware of your choice. Look here and below for inspiration.

and finally, who is the best goalkeeper in the world?
Edwin van der Sar, though he's no Pat Jennings.

Golau Glau have no current plans to reveal themselves to the world but you track them down on their own blog.
