The Present

The Present are Rusty Santos, Jesse Lee and Mina. They come from New York City, them the industrial cousins of sometimes tour mates High Places. Rusty is the guy who pulled the strings on Panda Bear's "Person Pitch" and Animal Collective's "Sun Tongs". You'll see them swooned over in NYC "best of lists" and their sound reconstructed next to the work of those other groups.

But enough of that. They're great friends, yeah. But sometimes it should be all about the band.

The Present make mind exploding music that somehow wriggles its way into a catchy chorus. If this is "wall of sound" - and at times it undeniably is - it's a wall with a pretty picture on it.; a bloc of colour in the middle of a dark space or a light shower in a torrent of hot noise. From a distance, it sounds like a jumble of synths and drum machines. Up close it's a meticulously planned experimental disco. "The Way We Are" was released in June, featuring 6 tracks of this artfully infectious stuff, while their debut "World I See", was released on Loaf records in 2008. They played London with Silk Flowers last night and play the Corsica studios, tonight.

This is active music, a sonic installation and a chance to see what really makes your favourite bands tick. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, go and see The Present.
