Tribute Record: Jack Rose

While there have been many high profile "music deaths" since - yes, you'll be hollering in honor or Malcolm Mclaren tomorrow - it was December when Jack Rose unexpectedly passed away at the age of 38. A master of the guitar, mixing North Indian classical techniques with the influence of bluegrass, and pared back minimalism, he influenced the weirdo-folk you probably love and continued the explorations of artists like John Fahey.
Now, a set of artists who were inspired by and will miss Jack's work, from Pelt to his days touring solo, have recorded a 6 and a half hour tribute, available now on Three Lobed Recordings. "While it has been tough around here and actions are no substitute for the man himself, we have been busy curating a download-only tribute "album" to Jack." explain the label, who've been long time supporters of Rose. Artists involved include Bardo Pond, Chris Forsyth, Un and Hush Arbors. There probably could have been many, many more.

Conceived with D. Charles Speer & the Helix in spring 2008, Thrill Jockey Records, who released the 10th record last year, will also issue "Ragged and Right", a 12" that translates the soundtrack to their tour - namely "Scorpio Woman" and "In the Pines" as performed by Link Wray - into another set of vibrant lowdown guitar songs.
