New Record: Trophy Wife

Nice to hear a bit more disco from the UK. Over the last few years, America has had the monopoly on that kind of dance, shuffling out everything from slick italo to laid back NYC loft. Oxford, this band's hometown, got Post Rock and chamber choirs filled with people who miss boarding school (JOKE!)

Mixing Studio with an admiration for rock bands like Tortoise, Tropy Wife's "Take This Night" is without a doubt, a "hit". Kinder to the radio than the fizzing tones of the genre's spacey revival but still retaining some of it's strange charms, there's a balearic richness, a sprinkle of chimes and, get this, even a reference to DANCING.
