As part of an irregular series (check out Girls Names guide to Belfast) underground post-punk fanatics Calories reveal some of the sights and sounds of their hometown, Birmingham. It also gives me a chance to bring up my favourite Birmingham fact. Did you know the city has more canals than Venice?

A beautiful place to go with friends and family. It's one of the biggest parks in the world. They have wild horses drinking water there and you can do a reconstruction of the Blair Witch Project if you have the time. If you've ever seen The Village you could apply the same logic and raise a family there. As long as the park ranger doesn't see you. Apparently there is a friendly guy living there called Barkfoot (this is true). Don't be scared, he doesn't bite.

Polar Bear Records

This is a music shop located in Kings Heath, one of my friends called Nathan works there. He has the biggest collection of records I've seen. Literally any band you can name he probably has a rare seven inch of. They are a specialist record shop and the employees are warm, friendly and give great advice.

This is a Thai restaurant located in Moseley, where I live. The Editors also live here. I've only ever been there once, but it was the nicest food I've eaten in a long time. It's kind of small which adds to the atmosphere also the waitresses are pretty cool. I recommend the massaman curry, but be careful of the Thai Green Curry, wowzers that's hot.
