Formed from bands on the Boston circuit, Girlfriends joined together sometime last year to make lo-fi pop that delivers sweet lyrics with a disarming snarl and a hip wiggle. Try 'Sucking Rare Meat of The Bone' for a suitably mucky taster. Refreshing backing vocals linger behind a smoky drawl.

XX, Booka Shade & Foals for Melt
Serbian fortresses, Mexican drive-ins and now huge hulking coal mining diggers towering into the sky. These international festivals sure do it better than the Brits. Yes, the latest festival to announce its summer line up is Germany's Melt Festival, promising "a true industrial rave experience" between 16th - 18th July at Ferropolis. Massive Attack, the XX and Booka Shade are amongst the first big confirmations.
