Class Actress
Pitchfork said: Elizabeth Harper is a singer-songwriter. A few years ago, she was recording simple coffeehouse fare under her own name. More recently, though, she has hooked up with producers Scott Rosenthal and Mark Richardson to form the Brooklyn-based electro-pop trio Class Actress. Harper still sings and writes songs, but now she does it in a radically different setting, flexing her chilly, confident voice over decidedly vintage synth twinkles.
Visions of Trees
FADER said: Recently, I’ve been watching so much Life in HD that I’ve begun dreaming about neon seaworlds and vivid green jungles full of baby orangutans making umbrellas. Sadly, these awesome images are tainted by my brain’s decision to accompany them with this Infernal song on a loop. If I could soundtrack my nocturnal nature trail then Visions Of Trees would be first on the playlist. The London duo’s swirling, ethereal seductojams make me think, Woah, nature is cool and that is as close as I will get to zahelu.
Celestial Bodies
I say: Haunting and full of tension, Celestial Bodies are a musical soundtrack to the exploration of human emotion, evoking both nostalgia for what once was and a dark optimism for what the future holds. Check out their videos for double A side single Vanity/Waste Your Time and you'll see what I mean.
B&G
Neu Magazine said: While others prefer to singlemindedly plough the archives of garage rock, psych or lo-fi guitar songs, B&G [pronounced Bare Girls] explores the space in the relatively new world of broken beats, dub inspired pop tracks and fresh takes on 80s synths. Like electronic magpies Four Tet, Flying Lotus and the hyperdub roster, anything goes. Serious, some of it is even a bit doom rock.
