Things to Make and Do

Things to Make and Do aren't just a record label. As the pro-active name suggests they don't just put things out there; they actively get behind each release. While it started as a fanzine it's grown year on year to include promotions, parties and limited edition vinyl. "We began throwing parties each time an issue came out." says Nick "First of all it was just DJs but pretty soon we were booking bands and the gigs slowly but surely took over. "If it was up to me, we would never make another CD" says Mexican Summer's founder Keith Abrahamsson. Formed less than a year ago, the label has been firing out releases as fast as bands can record them. Pressing to vinyl and buzzing out mp3s, they've bypassed the CDR format that had characterised experimental releases for years. Why would they carry on shunning CDs? Are shiny discs really that rubbish? "That's what the kids want!" he says. Read on »
