Beachtapes

Bloggers with labels eh... It seems that if you're into a certain kind of song (Beach might give the game away) it's a must that you're releasing the records that you love. So why do they do it? What wouldn't they release? Is it because nobody would otherwise? We spoke to Beachtapes aka George Bloom and Andy of FuturesoundsTemporary to find out more....
Beachtapes is... a wonderful new blog and label aimed at discovering, promoting and supporting our favourite new artists.
I started releasing records because.... I've always liked the idea of running a label that focuses purely on releasing brand brand new artists. I love the idea of discovering someone new before anyone else and helping them progress in the early stages. We're big fans of the whole DIY thing and I guess we wanted to embrace that in a positive way from a label point of view. Our idea was to work with artists based on what they wanted from a label rather than the other way around. The most important thing to us was that the music we were being sent was good and we wanted more people to hear it.
I believe that... I learnt more about the music industry from Kanye's 15 minute-long "Last Call" track than from 4 years at college.
I hate that... I can't make it to CMJ in NY this year.
I love that... people have started to mix hip-hop tracks with Toro Y Moi and Star Slinger songs. That "Dougie Vision" track mixing Cali Swag District with Toro Y Moi is unreal.
Recently I've been thinking that... you don't hear many Chuck Norris Jokes anymore.
I would never release a record by a band if... Chuck Norris asked me not to.
But I'll always want to release a band's record if... it sounds like the Beach Boys.
The hardest decision I've had to make is... choosing between wearing a Panda Bear or an Avey Tare t-shirt for a first date.
I hope that... Panda Bear's album comes with a free t-shirt. Been waaaaaaay too long since Person Pitch and the t-shirt has holes in it.
The new stuff that is on my label that I love is... Out of the two singles we have put out with Nicholas (Fiveng) so far I would say that "easy" is my favourite. When Nicholas sent that song over to us we absolutely freaked out cause we knew instantly how good it was. When Jamie Harley (video blog wunderboy) offered to do the video for it and Jheri Evans (Get Off The Coast) sent over the artwork it all started to fit into place. Looking back on it, it really did seem like the perfect release to launch the label for us. We're pretty proud of that.
The music that isn't on my label that I love is... I would have to say it's a pretty close call between four artists right now: Star Slinger, Blackbird Blackbird, Toro Y Moi and Young Dreams. I'm also pretty in love with Seapony, Coma Cinema and Sufjan Stevens this year too.
When I'm not listening to records I like to... talk about records.
I'm excited about... winter.
