First Release: DMD Tape

As is the trend, London promoters Dance Magic Dance are releasing a cassette tape featuring a bunch of bands that have played their nights in the past year. Having been to a fair few of them, it's bound to be a good listen. Here's what the girls have to say about it.
LA LA VASQUEZ - BUOY
We run an all girls night called Girls Girls Girls and are alway on the look out for ladies with talent and a bit of punk attitude, so when we stumbled upon La La Vasquez, an all girl post punk assault, recalling the best bits of Odyshape - era Raincoats, Kleenex/Liliput and Scritti Politti, we basically struck gold. Signed to super hip American indie label's M'Lady and Captured Tracks and touring with all our latest band crushes such as Brilliant Colors and Girls Names, we predict that La La Vasquez have a very exciting times ahead. 7" featuring 'Bouy' soon to be released on M'lady Records.
THE RACKET - I DON'T LIKE YOUR FRIENDS
We hold this band very close to our heart, not only does it comprise of our bestest friends in the whole wide world, we were there when they formed whilst eating pizza and watching 'End of the Century' and 'Rock 'n Roll Highschool'. Girl group harmonies and old school punk rock, you can't really go wrong can you? Believe it or not 'I don't like your friends' was the first song they ever wrote, The Ramones would be proud.
SEX BEET - I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU (SO SHUT THE FUCK UP)
Pure and unadulterated Garage Punk. When they played for us at The Stags Head the audience was just one big sweaty, jumping, beer swilling mess. 'I'm in love with you' encapsulates this perfectly in a frenzied 2 mins. They actually recorded the song for another label who then just disappeared before releasing anything, so at least it got out there in the end.
FRENCH KISSING - I WANT MORE
An exclusive bedroom recording for our first cassette release, we're so honored! These boys are at epicentre of Dalston's music community. They hang with the cool kids, make them dance their little socks off with their 60's inspired beach boy rock n roll and then get drunk with them afterwards. That's what it's all about, right?
GIRLS NAMES - GRAVEYARD
Another Captured Tracks gem, but refreshingly from Belfast and not Brooklyn, Girls Names write brilliant pop songs drowned in fuzzy vocals, off beat drums and, particularly on 'Graveyard', almost tribal guitars. Fantastic live as they are on record and darn right lovely people too. We hosted the london date of their UK tour with label mates La La Vasquez which they summed up pretty well: "We had so much fun. And people say that Londoners can't dance!"
♥ SIDE B:
ONE FATHOM DOWN - HER BRAIN COMPLETES THE CIRCUIT
We've known Tony for yonks and had spent many an afternoon in London Fields talking out about the surf greats such as Dick Dale, Link Ray and Man or Astroman, as well as our mutual love of heavy metal. So we knew it would only be a matter of time until he gathered up some musically inclined friends, took those influences and his incredible guitar skills and unleashed One Fathom Down unto the world. He sure didn't stick around either and with in 5 months was supporting Dick Dale himself! 'Her Brain Completes The Circuit' sounds straight out of a Tarantino movie- all desert, girls, tequila and unfathomable cool.
PHAT TROPHIES - OREGANO
Hilary from Glasgow's formidable punk band Divorce has a side project with her friend and sometime tour driver, Chris. They play awesome hammond heavy carnival freak-out music with paper bags over their heads. They were a last minute addition to a Divorce show we put on a while back, and totally blew our socks off. The recording is fuzzy as hell but that just kinda adds to the whole weirdness and darkness of it all.
PLEASE - SUTTON VOODOO
We'd heard very little about Please when we booked them, but we didn't really need to hear anything other than the 4 tracks on the ye ol unfaithful Myspace. Their songs are heavy and complex but with a backbone of impossibly catchy riffs that get stuck in your head for days on end. When I listened to Sutton Voodoo for the first time and then the second and the third straight after that, it gave me that Christmas morning feeling, pure and utter excitement. When they played for us at The Old Blue, that excitement just grew tenfold, all three of us were grinning like total idiots, and plotting to get them back on the DMD stage as soon as possible.
BO NINGEN - KOROSHITAI KIMOCHI
We've been following these crazy japanese punks around like regular Penny Lanes since 2008. Subsequently, they've become dear friends and have played for us on many an occasion, so it was only fit that they feature on our first release. The press have caught wind of just how awesome they are, hitting the No1 spot on Mojo's Top 10 for 2010 as the most exciting band in London, called the "Best Discovery" and "a storming triumph" by The Observer, and their album 'Koroshitai Kimochi', was named an unexpected essential atefact in Sunday Times Top 100 Albums of 2009 . So the word is out, Bo Ningen are something special and you should go and watch thm as soon as you can because they will put on the best goddamn show you will ever see.
BITCHES - CAN NOT LOVE
Another one of our fav's Staz and Blake are a high energy shouty bass heavy boy/girl outfit who really know how to get a crowd going... generally by Blake jumping into the middle of it and moshing, with his bass guitar narrowly missing peoples heads. Their onstage banter is top notch (epecially if you feed them vodka jelly shots before the show) and they are fast getting a name for them selves in London and LA. 'Can Not Love' is brash in-your-face noise pop, just the way we like it.
