Past Perfect: Germs of Youth

Germs of Youth

Germs of Youth is a label run by James Hoare - previously spotted in Your Twenties and now in Veronica Falls. In the past few years he's released records by his own band, the wonderful Finally Punk (RIP), Let's Wrestle and most recently, San Francisco wildgirls Brilliant Colors. Inspired by labels releasing limited and specialised records - check out the silk screened cover on "Walk into The World", "Casual Goths purple vinyl or the "Construct/Destruct" live CD - he got all nostalgic in this quickfire Q and A for Neu Magazine. Like, why were bands better in the past? Why don't more bands sound like Felt and come on, why the hell are the government making it so hard to be on the dole?

I started releasing records because...

I wanted to

I believe that...

most bands from the past are far better than the current ones

I hate that...

the government are making it harder to be on the dole

I love that...

you can still cheat the system pretty easily though

Recently I been thinking that...

music festivals are great.

I would never release a record by a band if...

they used steel drums, only joking. steel drums would actually be a good thing

But I'll always want to release a band's record if...

they sound like the Beatles

The hardest decision I've had to make is...

I don't tend to make hard decisions

Staying in "business" is...

whatever you make of it

I hope that...

next year my band signs to Apple and George Martin produces our first LP

The new stuff that is on my label that I love is...

Dolly Mixture

The music that isn't on my label that I love is....

Felt

When I'm not fiddling about with records I like to....

watch documentaries about the Luftwaffe.

I'm excited about...
