Permanent Vacation

Permanent Vacation have worked hard to promote contemporary takes on disco, house and even minimal techno since 2006. Formed in Munich, Germany by Tom Bioly and Benjamin Fröhlich after meeting in a record store owned by Fröhlich, they planned a series of compilations and releases based on one simple idea; dance music should be fun.

Four years later and they've had a lot of that. In amongst hosting their own parties and clubs, they've released tracks by Tensnake, John Talabot and Azari & III that have become hits in their own right while the compilations and mixtapes are a must-hear for any fan of modern electronic music.

We challenged Tom Bioly to answer our quickfire questions about what makes the label work.

I believe that...
Staying true to your ideas will pay off in the end

I hate that...
Things always have to be the way they are

I love that...
things always have to be the way they are

I would never release a record by a band if...
Mh don’t know… maybe if the band doesn’t smell so good

But I'll always want to release a band's record if...
The shit fits, wear it

The easiest decision I've had to make is...
Oh my! Decisions? Easy? Can’t think of a single one. It’s an eternal struggle!

I hope that...
there will never be the last days of disco.

The new stuff that I love is...
There is not so much new stuff I love. I actually hate new stuff in the beginning and when I get used to it, it’s already not so new anymore, actually then it’s old.

The old stuff that I love is...
oh so lovely new stuff in its aged version.

When I'm not fiddling about with records I like to..
Ride my bike at the shore Munich's Isar river or play "Schafkopf," (sheep head) a typical Bavarian card game…oh no wait, now I’ve come up with something better. Listen up, girls: I love to paint, write poems and go horseback riding

I'm excited about...
almost everything. The Permanent Vacation headquarters are a highly emotional site. It's like a fun rollercoaster ride, luckily with lots of exciting ups!

Permanent Vacation Selected Label Works 2 is out on October the 4th
