Team Love

You might not have heard about Team Love but you will have heard of one of its head honchos. Formed in Brooklyn in 2003, half of the label is none of other than Conor Oberst. Yep, good old Conor was fed up with releasing 'new talent' slowly and decided to take the plunge with his own label. Along with Nate Krenkel and now Becka they looked at digital music, decided to release their mp3s for free and put out real records by the likes of Jenny Lewis, Tilly and the Wall, Gruff Rhys and more recently, A Weather and Midnight Masses. In the guys' own words, if you use their library "you will not be notified if you fail to return something on time, and you will not lose your library privileges if you share selections with friends". So tell some people about Team Love, yeah?

We got into releasing records because no one was stepping up to release Wild Like Children (Tilly and the Wall)

The first few months were spent skinning up, going to church (a bar) and debating the digital revolution

We believe that vinyl is fun and Nik Freitas is Paul mcCartney

We hate that booking agents are the new A&R

We love that we're all able to do something we love

Recently we have been making plans to open an art gallery

We think that genres are for children

We're not just relevant to Brooklyn because we never liked the 80's in the first place

When we find an artist we love we feel devotion

Working with all of our artists has been really rewarding because they give us reason to do what we do

We like our artists to tour, get drunk, call us with good news, still be there in the morning

The hardest decision we've had to make is scaling back our vinyl production

Staying in business is a daily chore

We hope that the record store returns, that local mom/pop shops see a renaissance on the local level where people can go and experience a music environment that ins't dependent on broadband or wifi

The new stuff that is on our label that we want to shout about is Everyday Balloons, the second album by A Weather. the best sad bastard music america has to offer, and the team love library, where you can get free eps, albums and exclusive tracks by bands like Tilly, the Moth and the Mirror, Willy Mason, Glade and Wave Pictures (to name a few)...

The music that isn't our my that we want to shout about is Dub Police 12s, the 3 Mazzy Star albums being reissued on vinyl, Waves by Patti Smith, the new Tindersticks, the latest Bug/Flowdan track "Run," cracking Pere Ubu, the reissue of More Sad Hits by Damon & Naomi, the Soft Pack LP...

When we're not fiddling about with records we like to search for Kenneth Patchen on ebay, have a laugh with Rig 1.

We're excited about the new Chris Morris movie Four Lions.

In this month's library there's some tracks from Flowers Forever. Sample it and visit http://team-love.com for much much more.
