Trouble in Mind

Trouble in Mind are a super dedicated couple (trio if you like to count their daughter) from Chicago. In the past year they've released records by bands as good as Ty Segall and The Fresh and Only's and their current "label bundle" - 'cause you know you'll want all four - features gory noises from Hex Dispensers, Seattle psychkids Night Beats, dusty power pop from Sticks N Stones and The Pets' sideproject Tropical Sleep.

They took time out from packing records into jiffy bags to answer our record label questions of truth.

I got into releasing records because....

Bill has wanted to start a record label for years and when we were pregnant with Ronnie I think we both felt that if we started a label at that point it might be a way for us to keep up on music even if our band started to take a back seat. Needless to say the band is still going strong and now so is the label. Doesn't hurt that we get to hear new songs by a ton of our favorite bands before anyone else does!

I believe that...

Every band has at least one great song in them - it just might take a while to get it out...

I hate that...

We gave ourselves 3 times the work by hand stamping the first 500 records of each release. Word of advice to people starting a label...make it as easy on yourself as possible cuz it's already a lot of work!

I love that...

The bands we release are excited to put out records with us!

I would never release a record by a band if...

We didn't both agree 100% that we were in love with the music.

But I'll always want to release a band's record if...

They can write a perfect pop song.

The easiest decision I've had to make is....

Deciding to release LPs! (Liminanas LP coming this Fall! Wrong Words LP in March 2011!)

The money side is...

Money??? You're supposed to make money doing this???

I hope that...

Our daughter Ronnie grows to love music as much as we do!

The new stuff that that I love is...

Some things in our current listening pile include: Cave "Pure Moods", Eddy Current Suppression Ring "Rush to Relax", Wounded Lion's LP, Ty Segall "Melted", Moonhearts debut LP, Jacuzzi Boys "No Seasons", & Wet Illustrated's debut 7-inch (to name a few)

The old stuff that I love is...

A lot of sixties stuff in general maybe too much, like the Equals, Love, Tommy James, Dave Clark 5 and Del Shannon. We've gotten way into soft psych and sunshine pop in the past few years like UK Kalaidescope, Yellow Balloon, The Cyrkle, Fallen Angels, Boston Tea Party etc. etc. (aka records that cost too much) Bill listens to a lot of everything...I'm a little more narrow minded.

When I'm not fiddling about with records I like to....

Hang out with our beautiful, amazing, genius daughter.

I'm excited about...

all our upcoming releases - Our label turns one year in August & the next year is gonna be sweet!
